Kosmos
KOSMOS (KOZ-mohs)
Greek, "order, adornment."
In early Greek, kosmos meant order: the right arrangement of an army, a city, a well-set table. It also meant adornment, the care taken in dressing, and from that sense we inherited the word cosmetic. Later thinkers stretched it to cover the whole ordered universe, a world so well arranged that it deserved to be called beautiful.
The fragrance is built the same way, with opposites set in order. Pear opens bright and crisp, edged by hazelnut, bitter almond and pink pepper, with frankincense and rose water behind. Saffron, rose, jasmine and osmanthus follow, honeyed and velvety. Cistus resin, sandalwood, vanilla and ambergris form the base, warm and creamy, rounded by ambrette and cypriol. It projects widely and holds past the end of the evening, still composed the next day.
Light and shade, set in order.
