Corium
CORIUM (KOR-ee-um)
Latin, "hide, skin, leather."
To the Romans, corium was the hide of an animal and the leather made from it. The word stayed in use for centuries, and anatomists still borrow it for the dermis, the living layer of skin beneath the surface. It names leather as what it is: skin that has been kept.
The fragrance wears like that second skin. Violet leaf opens green and cool, a clean edge before the dark. Orris and jasmine form the heart, powdery and softly floral, easing the way. Then the leather settles in, supple and well worn, with tobacco and warm woods beneath it. It stays close and holds for hours, the way a favourite jacket keeps the warmth of the person who wore it.
Skin, kept.
